How to choose the story
The right story passes three tests:
- It shows a real quality — loyalty, courage, humour — without you having to name it.
- Grandparents and colleagues can follow it without backstory.
- It wouldn't embarrass anyone the morning after.
Tell it like a scene
Set the place and time in one sentence, describe what happened in three or four, and end on the moment that made you think, "That's her."
Bridge to the couple
The most moving maid of honor speeches turn the story outward: "That's the person who met [partner] — and I've watched them bring out exactly that side of her." Then raise the glass.
A simple outline
Hello and who you are (15 seconds) · the story (60 seconds) · what it says about her (30 seconds) · her partner and the two of them together (45 seconds) · the toast (10 seconds).
